It is amazing how many brain injury survivors work so hard after their injuries not only to recover from their injuries but also to advocate for other brain injury survivors. Sandra Shampang is one great example. She suffered a serious traumatic brain injury when her Ford Escort was struck by a truck. She was not unconscious at the time and assumed the condition would improve so she did not seek immediate medical attention. She continued to feel dizzy and nauseas after the accident and finally went to see a neurologist who made the diagnosis of a closed head injury. She has spent six years in recovery with treatment and medication.

Her situation is like many others who did not know that they had a brain injury and felt just a litte "shaken up" after the accident. Many brain injury vicitims do not realize that they have suffered a serious injury and simply believe that it will go away. She now works for an agency that assists people with disabilities with independent living skills and handling day to day activities.
