A tragic Detroit, Michigan car accident claimed the life of a 5 month old boy last week. He was a passenger in a car that was involved in a two car accident. Apparently, he was ejected from the vehicle and died from his traumatic injuries. Police are still investigating.

This tragedy highlights the importance of not only using approved child car seats and booster seats, but properly installing them in the vehicle. A seat that is not properly installed or secured, does not provide the infant or child with the necessary protection in the event of an accident. Many local fire departments and police departments offer to assist parents (at no charge) to make sure these seats are installed properly. Although it may seem like a small hassle to install these seats, especially just on a temporary basis in cars, it is often the difference between life, death, or serious injury.
