A terrible Detroit Michigan car accident resulted in the deaths of two young men and seriously injured two others yesterday. Both the injured and deceased passengers were in a stolen vehicle that lost control and hit three parked cars. None were wearing seatbelts and they were ejected from the vehicle.

We read alot about the importance of wearing seatbelts and all too often injuries could be avoided or minimized by simply buckling up. Now, I wouldn't necessarily expect that the four men who stole a car would abide by the law and fasten their belts, but this is clearly an instance where the injuries and deaths were caused by failing to wear the safety belts. In auto accident liability cases in Michigan, a person who fails to wear a seatbelt may have their jury award reduced by 5% if they were not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
