A 67 year old man was killed in a Michigan car accident when a hit and run driver struck him as he attempted to cross a Port Huron street in his motorized wheelchair. The man died after being transported to the University of Michigan Hospital. Incredibly, the person responsible for the death fled the scene of the accident. Police believe that they know the identity of the driver and are currently searching for him.

My office handles significant auto accident injury and death cases and we have seen our share of hit and run accidents. Many times, the negligent driver is never identified or apprehended. In those instances, the only civil recourse the victim has is to make an uninsured motorists claim for the injuries. Under the Michigan No-Fault law, the injured person obtains benefits from other insurance policies and is still entitled to receive benefits even if the insurance company of the negligent driver is never identifited.
