Just a horrible story appeared in today's paper about two Hope college students that were killed in a Muskegon Michigan car accident the other day. The passenger, a 19 year old woman from Sioux City, Iowa, and her boyfriend both died from injuries in the accident. Apparently the driver missed a stop sign and was struck by an oncoming vehicle.

Even though the passenger was not a Michigan resident, her family may still be entitled to benefits under the Michigan No-Fault. My firm frequently represents clients from other states who are injured in Michigan car accidents and quite often the injured person is still entitled to Michigan benefits, even though they did not have a Michigan insurance policy. The woman's family also may pursue a wrongful death claim against the driver's insurance company and may be able to seek other insurance benefits from other policies, depending on the coverages.
