Police chases can be deadly and have tragic results. Many times, a vehicle not involved in the police pursuit is either struck by the fleeing car or by the pursuing police vehicle. Other times, the occupants of the fleeing vehicle sustain serious injuries due to reckless driving the fleeing driver. This is precisely what happened the other day in a Monroe Michigan car crash. A vehicle with three teenagers was fleeing police when the driver left the road and struck a tree. One teenager was tragically killed and two others suffered serious injuries.

The family of the passenger killed in the accident may be able to file a Michigan Wrongful Death suit against the driver. All occupants of the vehicle can make claims for Michigan No-Fault benefits which are payable regardless of fault and include payment of medical bills, lost wages, nursing care services, and other benefits. The occupants do not have a legal case against the pursuing police authority because based upon reports there was no physical contact with the police vehicle and this is required under Michigan law.
