The number of product recalls due to lead hazards seems to keep growing. I have recently blogged about many of these products on InjuryBoard. The most recent recall is for the Budding Gardener Complete Gardening Set by Troy-Bilt. The stamp-painted logo on the backside of the gardening gloves contains high levels of lead. Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and causes lead poisoning, which can lead can cause adverse health effects. These include learning and behavioral disorders. There are no known poisonings related to this product. My firm handles lead poisoning cases for children but to date, we have not seen a child's high lead level attributed to a product like these gloves. Most child lead poisonings are from peeling paint and lead paint dust in older homes. Our cases are typically against landlords and property owners.
