Child lead poisoning is a significant problem in the United States. A lead poisoned child is at increased risk for learning and behavioral problems later in life. These injuries are considered to be permanent and irreversible. Most lead poisoning is from peeling, chipping, and flaking lead-based paint in older homes.

Two recent stories brought to light some other possible sources of lead poisoning. Retail giants Wal-Mart and Target have recalled products that are believed to contain unsafe levels of lead. Wal-Mart recalled baby bibs that it was selling in stores after a test showed high levels of lead. Target has recalled its Anima Bamboo toy collection games because they may contain high levels of lead. At this time, there are no reported cases of lead poisoning related to these products but parents should be aware of the recall and remove the items from small children.

My law firm specializes in child lead poisoning cases throughout Michigan and Ohio and handles them in several other states as well. From our experience, we have not seen cases of children being poisoned by these products and this is hopefully because the retailers recall the items and put out notices before the distribution gets even greater. Families with lead poisoned children should immediately contact our office to discuss the legal options for their children.
