"Our apologies go out to the family," said Henry Ford Macomb Hospital spokeswoman Suzanne Schut. "We are assuming all accountability for the incident."

An elderly woman who was recovering from a heart attack in the ICU at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital in Clinton Township, Michigan suffered severe burns to her face while being treated at the hospital. While in the hospital awaiting surgery, she fell out of her bed and suffered facial injuries, including a broken nose and a laceration requiring stitches. The medical staff then tried to cauterize the cuts but failed to take her mask off, causing a fire directly in her face. She suffered serious injuries as a result.

The hospital clearly has no excuse for this negligence. It was bad enough that this woman was not supervised and fell out of bed, but the fire is simply inexplicable. The injured woman and her family should contact an experienced law firm to learn about their legal rights. My firm has significant experience in both medical malpractice cases and burn injury cases.
