Another major settlement has been reported in a case involving allegations of sexual abuse against the Roman Catholic Church. The church has agreed to pay $50 million to more than 100 Alaskans who allege sexual abuse by Jesuit priests. This is largest settlement ever against a Catholic religious order and was filed on behalf of altar boys and girls who were sexual abused by their clergy. None of the priests were charged criminally and the church will not admit fault for the acts, despite paying the significant settlement.

Although claims of sexual abuse against the clergy have been in the public spotlight for the last few years, lawsuits are often filed against relatives, teachers, coaches, and group leaders by people who have been subjected to this abuse over the years. My firm handles these cases throughout the State of Michigan.
