Last year, a Dole product caused an e-colii outbreak that killed three people and caused sickness in many more from a bag of spinach. Now, another recall has been issued by Dole after a package of Dole salad mix tested positive for E. coli. The tainted bag was sold in Canada and no injuries or illness have been reported yet.

The voluntary recall, issued Monday, affects all packages of Hearts Delight sold in the United States and Canada with a "best if used by" date of September 19, 2007, and a production code of "A24924A" or "A24924B," the company said. The romaine, green leaf and butter lettuce hearts that went into the blend were grown in California, Colorado and Ohio, then processed at Dole's plant in Springfield, Ohio, on Sept. 6, according to Ordman.

Symptoms from e-coli poisoning can include severe abdominal pain and bloody diarrhea. In extreme cases, it can cause death, seizures, and permanent kidney damage. Persons injured from tainted food do have legal rights against the maker and seller of the tainted food product.
