Five people were injured in a Michigan semi truck accident yesterday when a semi truck driver apparently fell asleep at the wheel and plowed into five cars Friday on Interstate 94. The accident happened on I-94 near 22 1/2 mile road in Calhoun County. Two people apparently suffered serious injuries and the others did not receive major treatment. The truck driver was issued a citation at the time of the accident.

My firm handles a number of lawsuits against truck drivers and trucking companies in Michigan truck accident cases. During the investigation phase, we obtain the driver's travel logs to determine the number of hours the driver was on the road before the accident. As in this case, quite often driver fatigue from too many hours on the road is the cause of the truck accident. There are specific rules and regulations in this regard to prevent serious accidents but they are not always followed by drivers and the trucking companies. This is often one basis for finding negligence against the trucking company, in addition to the usual violations of road safety and traffic laws.
