A scary reminder of the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning appeared in the news today. Four residents of the Knob in The Woods apartment complex in Southfield, Michigan were hospitalized due to carbon monoxide poisoning. The unsafe levels of carbon monoxide came from a fault furnace at the complex.

My firm has handled several similar carbon monoxide poisoning cases for victims, several of which were the result of defective and improperly maintained furnaces. Many times, the unsafe levels are from a defective heat exchanger at the property. Victims of this carbon monoxide exposure do have legal rights against their landlords and I am frequently called by clients on these issues.
