A 13 year old boy suffered serious injuries last week in a Detroit, Michigan dog bite attack. He was attacked and bitten by a neighbor's dog crashed through a fence and attacked the child. He suffered significant injuries from the dog bites to his leg, which required surgery at Children's Hospital of Michigan. The neighbor and owner of the dog apparently knew of the broken gate before the incident.

Under Michigan law, the owner of the dog is strictly liable for the injuries and damages to the child. This means that essentially, he is automatically negligent for the attack and can be forced to pay money damages to the child. My firm handles a significant number of dog bite cases and the insurance company for the dog owner typically pays an out of court settlement to the child.
