The morning snowfall reportedly caused as many as twenty Detroit car accidents this morning on the Lodge Freeway. Other Michigan car accidents have been reported throughout the state due to the inclement weahter. Michigan law requires drivers to use more caution when the road conditions are icy and hazardous and people injured in Michigan car accidents can still file claims for their injuries against drivers who fail to drive according to the weathter conditions.

Michigan Truck Driver Accident Kills Two

A Michigan truck driver travelling in Arkansas was involved in a truck accident that resulted in the death of two people. From reported accounts, the truck driver was not at fault. Rather, the other vehicle in the crash crossed the median and struck the tractor-trailer, killing the two occupants. If this is in fact true, the truck driver and the trucking company would not be liable for the death of the two occupants and there would be no civil claim available to the families of the two decedents against the truck driver. The only possible lawsuit would be wrongful death claim by the relatives of the passenger against the driver of the same vehicle for negligent driving.

Detroit Bus Accident Case

A City of Detroit bus driver was charged criminally after she hit two woman the other day. Audrey Locke, 27 years old, was killed and her mother suffered serious injuries. The accident occurred at the intersection of Lahser Road and Grand River in Detroit. The family has hired an attorney to puruse a Michigan Wrongful Death Case and a case for the serious injuries suffered by the accident survivor.

Ypsilanti Car Accident With DTE Truck

A seventy-year old Ypsilanti man is in serious condition after his car was struck by a DTE utility truck. It happened at the intersection of Rawsonville and Bemis Roads in Ypsilanti Township. The injured man was rushed by ambulance to the University of Michigan Hospital where he is receiving treatment. Police are still investigating the accident.

The injured man has two possible legal claims from this accident. The first claim is with his own No-Fault insurance company for medical bills and other benefits. Car-Train Collision Kills Two and Injures One

Two residents of Mount Pleasant, MI were killed Saturday afternoon, December 8 when their car struck a train carrying 67 passengers. The accident occurred at 2:12 P.M. and Jennifer Mae VanBuskirk, 31, and Allen John Pego, 31, were pronounced dead at the scene. Passenger Msquabnah Pego, 28, was airlifted to St. Mary's Hospital in Saginaw with unknown injuries.

Jennifer Mae VanBuskirk, 31, Mount Pleasant, was driving westbound on East Baseline in a 2002 Mitsubishi Galant when the car struck the train, according to the Isabella County Sheriff's Department.

None of the passengers on the train were injured as a result of the crash. At the time of the crash it was unknown whether drugs or alcohol were involved. The passengers in the front of the car, who both died, were wearing their seatbelts and their airbags did deploy. Officials don't think that Msquabnah Pego was wearing his seatbelt.

Chesterfield Michigan Car Accident

A serious Michigan car accident was reported in the paper today. The accident, which occurred on I-94 near 26 Mile Road in Chesterfield Township, Michigan occurred early Saturday morning, A man from New York died in the accident after he lost control of his Ford Escort and crashed through the freeway median. He then hit a tractor-trailer truck traveling eastbound. The truck then flipped and was struck by two other vehicles.

The truck flipped on its side and slid into and through the median, blocking westbound traffic. Two vehicles driving westbound then struck the vehicle. The other drivers were all taken to the hospital, but fortunately only appear to have minor injuries. Police are still investigating but do not believe that alcohol was a factor.

All of the accident victims can file claims for Michigan N-Fault insurance benefits for their medical bills. If any have serious injuries, they can file a suit against the estate of the New York driver for negligence. Based upon early reports, it does not appear that the family of the New York man can file a Michigan Wrongful Death suit because seems to have been at fault in the accident.

Lapeer County Car Accident Kills Three

A serious Michigan car accident last Friday killed three people and seriously injured two in Attica Township, Michigan. Apparently, and eighty-one year old man and his seventy-six year old wife were traveling to visit relatives when they vehicle crossed the center line and struck a vehicle driven by another woman. All three of them died in the accident. Another vehicle crashed into the wreckage, causing injuries to a mother and young child.

Under Michigan law, there are several possible legal claims that can be made by the persons involved in the accident. All injury victims, and their families, are entitled to Michigan No-Fault benefits to cover things like funeral expenses, medical bills, and lost wages. The wife and the other woman killed in the accident could file a Michigan Wrongful Death Claim against the negligent driver for monetary compensation. These claims are typically filed by surviving family members. The injured mother and her daughter can also file claims against the negligent driver if their injuries are serious enough to meet the threhhold under Michigan law. Detroit Ambulance Crash

A patient being transported in an ambulance died Tuesday morning when another vehicle crashed into the ambulance. The Detroit car accident occurred on eastbound Grand River and roads were closed for the investigation. The driver of the car and the ambulance driver were taken to the hospital for treatment.

The family of the deceased patient can file a Michigan Wrongful Death claim against the negligent driver, which would be either the driver of the ambulance or the diver of the vehicle that crashed into the ambulance. At this point, police have not indicated who was at fault for the accident. The family could also make a Michigan No-Fault Insurance claim for different benefits, which include payment of funeral expenses. Fraser Math Teacher Killed in Car Accident

A tragic story in today's newspaper about a Fraser, Michigan math teacher who was killed last Sunday in a Michigan car accident. She was struck by another vehicle while leaving church services.

Under Michigan law, her relatives are permitted to file a Michigan Wrongful Death lawsuit against the negligent driver for monetary damages. The family also can file a Michigan No-Fault Insurance claim with her own car insurance company for payment of funeral expenses and recovery of lost wages (up to three years) and other benefits. Macomb Hit and Run Accidents Injure Pedestrians

Two hit and run accidents in Macomb County, Michigan over the weekend were reported by the police. Both involved pedestrians. A 53 year old man was struck and killed on Kelly Road in Fraser. The driver did not stay around to assist the man. A 42 year old man suffered serious injuries and is hospitalized after being struck by a car on Gratiot Road in Clinton Township. That driver also fled. Police are investigating both accidents.

Even though the drivers have not been identified, both victims have legal rights. Under the MIchigan No-Fault law, both pedestrians can obtain insurance benefits from either their own auto policy, a policy of a family member, or if none, the Michigan Assigned Claims Facility. These benefits include funeral expenses, medical expenses, and other benefits. My firm regularly handles these cases for pedestrians, even if they do not have their own insurance.
